In case you missed it, on Wednesday this week president Obama made the announcement that he openly supports gay marriage, nothing surprising there in a liberal president. What was shocking was how he misused the words of Jesus to express that Jesus would support this political issue. As someone who loves the Scriptures and is a minister of the gospel I feel I cannot just stand idly by. The distinction has to be made friends between a citizen’s constitutional rights and the expected moral behavior of those committed to the Christian faith. Those are two completely different things, yet we blur the lines trying to make them one and the same. Since this has become a news topic for the week with the recent announcement of the president, I thought it would be helpful to hear a different opinion. This video of Tim Keller is from a year ago but Scotty Smith tweeted it this morning, I am reblogging it for you. Keller says,
“Homosexuality is not the original design for sexuality so it is not good for human flourishing. But that’s not what sends you to heaven or hell. What sends you to heaven or hell is a faith in the gospel. You cannot be your own savior through your own performance or your good works” (from 5.25).
For two critical responses to the words of the president this week check out Joe Carter’s open letter to the president, the blasphemy of Barack Obama, and Francis J Beckwith, the president, Jesus, and the golden rule.

Thanks that is helpful.
